I can clearly remember the extreme emotions from the Kent State killings, and from many other protests and conflicts in the U.S. at that time, especially on college campuses since I was on one myself. I was in college in Philadelphia until 1972. But I find your description "sheer terror and horror" to be over dramatized and not accurate.
