You missed one part--stuffed animals. Bag up stuffed animals in garbage bags and let them sit for a week.
Personally, I found that one treatment of Nix and my mother's obsessive comb-outs always worked like a charm. While Nix may damage your hair, there are enough deep-conditioning treatments out on the market to make up for it.
Lots of things work for lice--usually by suffocating them. For instance, mayonnaise also makes a good lice treatment. Does that mean I want to put mayonnaise on my hair if I get lice? No thanks.
I've also found that an ounce of prevention is worth an ounce of cure--the kids I care for know what lice are and what not to share with their classmates/friends to prevent lice from being spread.
