Plagued with lice? Here's how to rid!
Ugh.. nasty critters, last year and this year my daughter brought it home from school (or the bus?) and it took me MONTHS to rid and was VERY costly.
Well, after this round I decided to investigate and thoroughly research on the net. Tea tree oil, rosemary oil, thyme and peppermint... They seemed to be the combative force against getting them.
But what will kill? Meh... nix and other products if you have hair like mine will not only damage the hair but it takes two bottles to thoroughly soak. That added with my daughters thick mane and the boys hair ended up being over $100 for a good 10 day treatment.
Cheapest way to go, and I just proved it right on my own head before the kids came home for their treatment is a bottle of regular ole blue DAWN soap. Take the bottle and start behind the ears and neck, lather it on straight with no water to dilute... thoroughly saturate the hair and then cover with a shower cap it for a hour. Wash it out and you can see the bugs going down the drain. Don't attempt to comb it after washing but continue to step two.
I was going to mix my own shampoo up but found this today at Walgreens - bio Infusion Shampoo Naturals Rosemary mint shampoo and conditioner. For added measure I put in 50 drops of tea tree oil in each and shook it up. I didn't shampoo this go around as I think the DAWN got my hair squeeky clean but I did lather in the conditioner and gently brushed the tangles out and distributed the conditioner. Then I took the nit comb and I couldn't believe how the bugs just fell to the sink (those that didn't wash out) and better yet the lil buggers were DEAD! I combed it the best I could and left the conditioner in and will wash it out tomorrow for added measure.
I think the kids and I will do a Sunday beauty treatment of Dawn, conditioner and fine tooth combing for a few weeks to be sure they are all gone.
Don't forget to wash bedding, toss pillows in dryer on high for atleast 30 minutes and vaccuum all areas of the house you normally use on a regular basis.
There's also a dog shampoo ( I ordered it today from Target, but wasn't going to wait a week to do something!) that is supposed to be good for the killing and cleansing of the nits. I read a few articles where if this is used once a week it will kill any new nits or bugs and hinder them coming back.
I'm going to go with the Bio Infusion shampoo/conditioner for a every other day treatment. It wasn't expensive really, considering a 8 oz bottle of Nit or Rid costs over $8.00 and this is 33 oz for only $14.99 and it's not a pesticide!
All natural ingredients and makes your scalp feel wintery/tingly fresh!
Cheapest way to go, cost effective and better yet.. IT WORKS!
