When I was fleeing Louisiana with my three kids, we didn't get any further than the very next town (Lake Charles) when our minivan broke down out in the middle of nowhere in the pitch blackness and I had no idea what road we were on or where we were. Two of my kids were crying and we were parked in the driveway of an auto junkyard where there was a very large and irate doberman barking at our car. I called the police and they were able to track us down by the name of the junkyard, push start our car and escort us to the nearest hotel...where we stayed for five days while they repaired the transmission again and again (each day we were thinking we'd be back on the road) with my unstable and very upset husband just 10 minutes away who knew we were staying in a hotel somewhere in Lake Charles.
It was a harrowing time.
One of those situations where NOTHING seemed to go right.
