Well I 'm thinking that all those extra curves and fins and rolls mean lots of hand laid fiberglas which weighs extra pounds. That plus Chevrolet had incentive and engineering budget to reduce weight (performance, economy) where these guys are mainly going for style and looks.
But most of all, if it actually weighed less, I think they would tout that as a selling point, and they don't. My guess is this 789 porked on a couple hundred pounds or more.
Also, I would bet the stock bumpers are still there under the custom bodywork. They would need to be to keep the airbags working.
