I did misunderstand your meaning (or you wrote it weird).
This kid managed to not cross the line that would have caused an intervention. I think we will learn much more when the family comes forward. He has a sister with a PhD (I think) from Princeton, and he goes to VT. The gap between high school graduation and his current standing at VT doesn't add up, either.
