Earlier today, in the ICU, a 37 year old man who's been dying slowly of brain cancer for the past 5 years was being visited by his wife and two children, son 10, daughter 7, because he was feeling particularly well this morning. He started to code while they were talking, and finally succumbed despite everyone's efforts to resuscitate him.
The 7-year-old daughter said to her mother, in the midst of everyone trying to resuscitate him, "why won't they let daddy be with the angels?" Smart and tough girl, for 7 years old. I heard that first-hand from a nurse who was there helping.
Too bad her daddy wasn't famous... instead of people waxing emotional on internet forums, he'll have a small blurb in an obituary somewhere.
I find it a little sick that death is publicity.
