A story worth sharing

I heard this insane story from a professor of mine and I think its worth sharing.

Basically my teacher used to work in Africa helping and treating Aids patients in this remote village of a country I can't recall. The village had a single dirt trail that led to it, and the closest villlage with a phone near to it was almost half a day's travel away. Now my teacher had been working with this 50 year old HIV positive man for many months and they had become friends. One day this man decided to create a charity to collect money for all of the HIV/Aids patients in his village. He managed to collect a few hundred dollars from various people/organizations, but instead of helping the others in his village, he took the money and used it as a dowery to marry another mans 15 year old daughter. Now this 50 year old man had already lost 3 children and 2 wives to AIDS, and my teacher, realizing that he was only going to kill this girl as well, went to try to reason with him. My teacher took with him a box of condoms, and went to go meet this man at a bar. He offered the man the condoms pleading with him not to infect this poor girl, but upon hearing this, the man became furious. He grabbed my teacher shouting "who the fuck are you to tell me what I can do?!". My teacher tried to get away but before he could, the man cocked back and headbutted him, breaking my teachers nose, and making direct blood contact with this HIV positive man.

SO now that my teacher had just been infected with HIV, he managed to free himself from this 50 year old man, tearing his shirt off in the process, and ran full speed to the village elder seeking help. The 50 year old took chase after him and somewhere along the way got hold of a machete. So now my teacher, just infected with HIV, running for his life, now had to dodge a knife wielding maniac.

Finally he made it to the village elders house, he ran inside the house and met the elder in his courtyard. He tried to explain the situation to this 90 year old man, but before he could the knife wielding man showed up and began chasing him around the old man. My teacher described it like it was out of a movie where he was literally 'matrix like' dodging knife swings, running for his life. After this went on for a while he managed to get himself inside the old mans house and lock the door. He waited for a while until some of the other villagers were able to take the crazed man away, then immediately took off for his small shack where he kept his money and passport. He collected his things, and simply took off running down the main road towards the village with a phone.

By the grace of god, a beer truck, which only comes once every three months, just happened to be comming down the road at the same time as my teacher was leaving, so he stopped the truck, climbed in the cab, and offering the driver three times his monthly salary was able to get him to turn the truck around and head for the village. But before they could get anywhere, who should come down the road on a motorcycle but the crazed man. The crazed man brought his bike to a movie-style stop blocking the road, stopping the truck. He took from his jacket a .357 magnum and came to the side of the truck pointing it at the driver. He told him to get out, and the driver (having no clue of what was going on), opened the door to get out, only right after he opened the door, he kicked it into the crazed man knocking him over. He immediately closed the door, hit the gas, plowed through the bike and took off down the road.

Within a few hours he was at the village with a phone where he was able to call the organization he worked for which in turn sent a helecopter to pick him up and evac him to the nearest hospital. Now, apparently if you can get to a hospital and start this specific treatment within 24 hours, there is a slim chance that you can kill the virus before it spreads. My teacher said that within 23 hours of direct blood contact, he was able to start the treatment, which is basically the strongest dosage of chemotherapy that the body can take.

My teacher is a marathon runner and he said the day after he started the treatment, he couldnt walk, and was projectile vomiting across the room. 3 months later, he tested negative for HIV, and needless to say, he soon quit his humanitarian work in Africa to become a teacher.

This story is not made up I assure you. I think it should be made into a movie of some kind.

On another note, that same teacher once left his pet dog in africa to one of his friends there. He came back a few weeks later only to find that the starving man he left the dog with had eaten it.

TIA at its finest.
