Spoken like a true Westerner.
Hal, I'm no scientist, but when it comes to the topic of global warming and environment, one thing I know to be true is that in the West, we have come to be used to a certain wasteful lifestyle. Doesn't it bother anyone that just to feed themselves they need to responsible for introducing another few ounces of non-biodegradable packaging into the environment? We have gyms now because for the most part, what we do in our daily lives doesn't keep us healthy, and (big city folk aside...possibly) we get in the car to drive ridiculously short distances that we could just walk.
All this probably makes me sound like I worry about it all the time. Well... not quite, but it seems to me we've reached a point in our level of personal responsibility that requires intelligent folk to raise awareness and set examples. Telling us "not to worry" seems like a harmful thing to do.
The effects of this lifestyle, we are told, is global warming. I believe it, although it shouldn't take believing in global warming to motivate an intelligent person into environmental prudence.
