Yes, you are right...it's just a novelty thing. And possibly an envy thing. I always wished I could pee standing up outside like a man, rather than squat and, like you mentioned, have to wiggle away from the pee at the same time so it doesn't get on my feet.

And, yes, unless one is outside, I would hope they would always wipe.
