30% energy loss isn't impressive but if the energy can be supplied from hydroelectric, wind, solar, and geothermal, it's still an interesting option that rivals more combustible fuels. When the idea of welding was mentioned, I thought, "Hmm, well that would make the work substantially less dangerous." Maybe that's worth the 30% loss?
