So my roomate just had entymology, which went into arachnids a little bit. He informed me that these particular arachnids are particularly sensitive to mating pheremones released. More than likely that is going on here, but he also said there are a few plant/plant like things that grow and release chemicals similar to the mating pheremone. Makes sense evolutionarily, with these around there are less bugs that care about eating you, so if this is in a dark corner somewhere that could be moldy that could explain it as well.
