Of course they would... but only if they knew about it. Just like environmentally conscious woodsmen, atheists should "leave no trace".  I wish it were otherwise, but if I were an atheist interested in seeking public office in the future, I would scrupulously avoid mentioning my atheism or joining organizations for atheists. What would Uncle Tom think?
