I don't think this is a moral dilemma. The problem here is you were embarrassed to tell your brother (little brother, I assume) that you were trying to hook up. Not a moral problem. If your brother knew your intentions didn't realize it was a "double date," and wanted to come anyway, _he_ would have been the dick, not you.
For your bigger question, however, I think that it's often not a moral dilemma so much as a LEGAL one. I think that, in general, you can be a nice guy and still get your laughs.
