Don't forget the HK USP or USP Compact .45.
The nice thing about that pistol is that it has a manual safety that doubles as a decocker when you press it downward.
I've got the USP Compact and it's a terrific pistol.
Still, I'm partial to the 1911 (I have 4 of them 2 Kimbers and 2 S&W). The 1911 has a nicer trigger and the single stack makes it a thinner pistol than any double stack .45.
For carry my commander-sized S&W 1911 PD is lightweight, slim and comfortable to wear.

Thus when my eldest son asked me what he should have done, had he been present when I was almost fatally assaulted in 1908, whether he should have run away and seen me killed or whether he should have used his physical force which he could and wanted to use, and defended me, I told him that it was his duty to defend me even by using violence." - Mahatma Ghandi
