Muscle burns more calories than fat at a resting state, so the more muscle you have the more calories you're going to be burning at any given time.
As far as I've ever seen or heard about diet pills, none of them work. There is a new FDA approved weight loss drug that's going on the OTC market soon, however, and I have heard good things about it- downside is it's a bit pricey (of course.)
