I'm not sure I agree with this. It impacted on me like a ton of bricks. I can remember downloading from alt.binaries groups in the early 90s. It was a key impact on the development of my own kinks. Traditional porn mags were very tame by comparison. There was rarely anything beyond vanilla (and the occasional girl on girl spread). Internet porn opened a whole new world of possibility and most importantly, showed me that others did these things as well.
Fresnelly, being about the same age I think we share just about the same experience when it comes to video and TV. Zapped and Porky's were seminal texts for the young boys of our era. But more importantly, CFMT's Italian movies (there is nothing better than breasts that speak Italian) and CITY TV's soft core porn on a Friday night. These were golden moments.
I would also like to add that hardcore, even when scrambled is solid material when you are a horny teen.
