We went to Costa Rica and certain months the volcanos are covered in clouds. We went to one that shoots red hot stuff daily and it was shrouded, but some brits we met went up to the viewing spot at midnight for some reason and the volcano cleared up for them. We went up the next night at midnight and it did not clear up. Anyway, just thought you should know that.
One thing to do in CR is to go to the steel bridges area park. Worth the trip. We rented a toyota crv while we were there and were glad we did. Some monster potholes on certain roads. You never knew when they would have a lot of potholes, but then other times, the roads would be awesome.
San Jose had a heat wave when I was there and I got a fever. Fun times to have your wife put ice on your forehead for 5 hours straight. LOL
Oh yeah, the bat caves were incredible to hike into. You have to have a guide or you will get lost. 3 types of bats. Very muddy and creeks in the caves, but so cool to be there. Guides all know english.
We stayed at one resort near the volcano and it had long slide rides for the kids, but us adults had fun with it as well. That resort also had a butterfly area and a crocodile zone. Worth the price ! Good fresh food as well.
I really wanted to see soccer games in San Jose, but I had that fever so I missed them. After the fever was over, the next day was sunday and no soccer could be found by me.
Another good San Jose lunch trip is to grab a taxi and tell them that you want to go to the restaurant where you catch the fish before they cook it. They might know where it is. If they don't then go to the next taxi. It was an amazing lunch I tell you !
