Lately I have been downloading and saving various motorsport DVDs and videos to my PC. My PC is a Pentium 866, with 256 MB RAM, and a replaced 64 MB Radeon video card. It has a TV-out function.
I currently have a DVD recorder connected to my TV that I use to record programs, etc.
The cable that came with the video card plugs into the video card itself, is yellow, and looks as if it connects with the yellow colored "yellow, red, and white" cables that are common among televisions and visual media. Yet, I tried hooking it up, and could not get the media playing on my PC to show up on my television (I tried Video 2, 3, and DV, though I am not sure which I need to connect it to). This is one possibility for getting the media from my PC and recording it on a DVD.
The second is to buy a DVD burner to install in my PC. As I said above, my PC is older, and I am not sure if it can sufficiently burn DVDs, even with a DVD burner.
Also, I am not familiar with installing drives into my PC, and when I took the cover off my case, I saw some wires going to the motherboard (I think), and this make me suspicious that I would not easily be able to remove my current DVD drive and install the new one. Is installing a DVD drive a simple process (I've installed a new video card before), or is it complex? Does it require certain specifications in order to "work" with a given processor/motherboard?
To me, the PC to TV method seems ideal, but my results have not been encouraging when trying to get the PC media to show up on my television.
I realize this post is disjointed and covers multiple methods. Ultimately, I want to transfer this motorsport media (many of which is ripped from DVDs) to actual DVDs so that I can store them for use at a later time. I am trying to find the most convienent, and reasonably priced, method for achieving this.
I checked the cost of DVD burners on Newegg, and they are reasonably priced, but I am skeptical of the installation and whether my PC can accomodate the drive, and successfully burn DVDs.
I'd greatly appreciate any and all feedback from anyone familiar with any aspect of my post.
Below I have included a picture of the cable that came with my video card. One end plugs into the video card itself, and the other end appears to be ready to receive the yellow of the red, white, yellow cables that are common among visual media, as I said above.
At this point, the DVD burner connected to my TV is a more recent, and higher quality, piece of equipment, and my computer is slowly becoming a dinosaur. If I can get the media to show up on my TV, I would consider that to be the ideal means. But I am certainly open to either idea, and would greatly appreciate help in any form.
Thanks!
