I agree that abstinence is a relic carried over from the days of arranged marriage (along with monogamy, but that is neither here nor there). In today's society, we have the freedom to seek out and choose a fit and loving partner, and also (usually) have a broad range of mates to choose from. Sex is a great way to express your love for another and share yourself with them so you can know each other better. I feel that sex is an important way to become intimate and comfortable with the one you love and promotes communication and openess between each other.
Communication with a partner is difficult enough without having a whole section of your relationship declared as taboo and needed to be tiptoed around. I would prefer healthy relationship education in schools rather than an abstinence centered sexual education class.
