I've added the shoutbox to the main page of the forums. It is a way for users to leave messages and chat on the front page. It updates automatically, so you don't have to refresh the page.
I'm hoping that people will use it often, even to leave a running commentary on their day. The whole idea is to add a bit of personality and chaos to make things interesting. We obviously do not have a lot of room (or appreciation) for chaos in our discussion forums, but everyone has a little spontanious itch in them. I'd rather you scratch it on the TFP than on some other board

Ok so much for that. It was causing some crazy server lag. I'd really really love to be able to provide this service for people, but I guess the server can't handle it. May be time for an upgrade.
