The police action diminished considerably in the neighbourhood when we moved in. The guy who lived in the house before us was a pretty shady fellow who got a lot of visits from angry people who he owed money. There was actually a clearly visible pathway in the backyard lawn from all the times Mr. Shady had snuck away from angry guys wanting to "talk" to him. It took almost two years to fade.
We got a visit from a plainclothes policeman within a week of moving in. He was very nice and friendly and gave us plenty of advice on how to act if any of the angry guys showed up, and he gave us his direct number too. There were a few cars driving by in a strange manner, but since we were new to the neighbourhood we couldn't tell if they were legitimate locals or something worse. There were a few phonecalls and a bunch of letters from debt collectors, but that was it. Hell of a way to feel welcome in a new place though.
