Then, there's Tijuana, Mexico - only 15 minutes to the south. You can park on this side of the boarder and walk across. You'll need a passport to get back, though. Also, it's not a trip I recommend for the faint of heart: It's a different world over there... I usually recommend driving across and bypassing Tijuana altogether. Drive about half hour south to
Puerto Nuevo and enjoy slipper lobster, reasonable bartering, and the much cleaner markets along the beach.
Working with the
zoo, there's also San Diego Wild Animal Park 30 minutes to the north - you could get passes good for both places.
There are Indian casinos nearby if you feel lucky.
Black's Beach (clothing optional) is in La Jolla 15 min to the North.
Baseball is also an option.
Padres play at least one day each weekend in March at PETCO park, downtown.
