There's a great story from Hickman and the camera crew guys about relative performance of the two cars. They were doing laps while prepping cars to handle the stunts. I think there were two of each. The Chargers ate the mustangs alive, and with Hickman behind the wheel, McQueen eventually let a pro step in to keep to schedules. (That cooked corner and wheel-hop reverse nonsense was an error.)
Anyway, the Charger certainly gets the Darth Vader award of muscle cars.
