Thank You For Smoking was in my opinion just a fair movie. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. I thought the idea was brilliant, and the script was pretty good, but there was just something kind of predictable about it. I guess I didn't like the 'grinch has his heart grow three sizes by the end of the movie' thing. I mean, I knew it made sense, but I guess I was looking for something a little less transparent.
Beyond The Gates Of Splendor is a documentary that I challenge all TFP'ers to pick up, if they happen to see it on their store shelf. It's about 5 missionary couples who go to Ecuador in the 1950's into the jungles to a tribal community and how they interact with them. It is a great film, not preachy at all, with a great message.
