I grew up with a pack of german shepards and a great pyrneese. We had some 'big' sheperds, 90 lb or so. But the one pyrneese we had was a giant. The one time we weighed him, he was over 180. I used to run with them, and I was a solid 200 lbs, but a solid pyrneese shoulder to my hip almost sent me sprawling on a few occasions.
It was a good thing costco sold dog food. The ferrier (guy that shoed the horses) raised chickens and would give us hundreds of eggs that were too old/not high enough quality to sell to humans. We also had a neighbor that was an avid hunter who would usually give us a freezer full of meat every fall to feed the dogs.
