There are some pretty awesome things to do in Memphis.
Beale Street, home of the blues, is an excellent place to hear amazing music. I'm not really sure how the scene will be around Christmastime, but you should definitely check it out.
Memphis also has a rock and soul museum that many people seem to like. Sun Studios would also be a good music-related attraction to visit.
If you're into artsy things, be sure to check out Overton Square, as wayne mentioned. It's got a nice art theater and a pretty cool playhouse.
If it's a nice day, you might want to check out Riverfront park. It's got some nice views of the Mississippi.
