I'm an ovo-lacto Vegetarian (have been for about 2.5 years) and it has had SOME effect on my health although a vegetarian diet is not a guaranteed change in health.
I've been progressively gaining weight my whole life, and topped out at about 300 last summer. I decided at that time to become slightly stricter about my no-meat guidelines (cutting out broth and the like) which forced me to turn to more vegan-like eating habits which in turn lowered my fat intake, and helped me to lose a considerable amount of weight.
I drink protien shakes and take vegetarian vitamins on the small chance that I may be missing something.
