if it's a 2.4 ghz cordless phone, it can interfere with your wireless signal. If you have a microwave that's running, that can also interfere.
The doorway doesn't matter unless you can draw a straight line between the computer, the doorway, and the router. Otherwise, radio signals don't tend to follow hallways
What are your walls made of? Do you have any weird wall hangings made of metal?
