Yep- the tracks are recorded with no plug-ins.
I tried different mics and I even tried to record line-in with my synthesizer and it's all the same.
I also think it's something with certain global compressor/limitor (even mistakenly set automation)... but a month ago Cubase was just fine and I don't recall playing with the settings/preferences too much.
I'll go on looking for the 'ghost' compressor though--
