nOnsensical...ummm what's PATA ? (sorry)and there are no jumpers on a Gateway laptop, the pins fit as-is. The entire drive slides in and makes the connection when it's fully inserted. As for the master or slave designation I don't even know how to change or find this.
Aro23...this is windows that came with the laptop and it now resides on a group of 5 recovery cd-roms---I should also mention that these are not factory pressed cd's...I am not sure how many other manufacturers are now doing this, but when you get a new Gateway, and start it the first time they prompt you to "create your own"
JinnKai.....I don't have ps2 keyboard or usb mouse, but at this point, if that's all I have to buy to save a 1 year old computer, then it's worth a try. By the way it's a "Synaptics" touch pad, and I know this how?....you guessed it, all the times when windows encountered an error with Synaptics TouchPad and must close, sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks all. I want to wait for some more replies before I do anything, if anyone needs more info about the problem or computer's configuration, I'll be here checking this thread all week! Thank-you!
