Company of Heroes
Does anyone else have this game? This is all I've been playing since I got it, lots of fun. If you haven't heard of it, CoH is a WW2 RTS made by Relic, who also made Homeworld and Dawn of War. The story in the campaign is definitely up to their standards, and the cutscenes look amazing even though they're done with the game's engine. With details on high, it looks good enough to be a FPS engine.
The game as a whole is very polished, great graphics and sound. The physics are also quite impressive as the game uses the Havok engine. When a tank shoots a building, part of it crumbles. You can also blow apart or run through walls with heavier vehicles.
I'm loving the gameplay though, best RTS I've played in a while. You build bases and collect resources; manpower, munitions and fuel. There are resource nodes all around the map which represent sectors, each sector you control gives manpower and some give either fuel or munitions from 5-16 per minute. Also, sectors have to be connected to each other and to your home base, if a sector is cut off from supply you no longer gain the resources from it.
The best part about the game is the small scale tactics. Infantry benefit from being under cover, light cover such as bushes or barrels or heavy cover such as a low wall or something. Infantry can also garrison inside buildings and fire out of the windows. All this is very fast paced and micromanagement is extremely important. Infantry take cover automatically but sometimes it's best to order them somewhere else, like away from the grenade that someone just threw at you.
The multiplayer has a ranking system similar to Halo 2 xbox live where it randomly pits you against players of the same rank.
Well I've already written too much but if you like RTS', check this game out. I believe there's a demo out there so you can see what it's like.
