Before you do that take a pair of needle nose pliars and see if the shaft will turn - and make sure it's adjusting the temp when you turn it. The cable behind the HVAC unit can snap, which would also lead to no resistance and no heat control. If that's the case it's time to dive under the dash to replace the cable.
