my mom doesnt like cats, so as a kid I never had any... I grew up with dogs. They were always reasonably well trained and good tempered... lots of fun. My Siberian husky has charmed a lot of people that didnt like dogs or were afraid of them.
But I have always enjoyed cats when at friends houses and living at my grandparents for the summer.
What will probably determine what pet I get is where I'm living. If I'm in an apartment I'll get a cat, it just seems cruel to keep a dog stuck in an apartment, even if they are a small dog. but once I get a house with a backyard I'll probably get a dog.
