I know there are lots of programs capable of this. I use Adobe Premiere Elemets 2, and this is automated. I haven't tested to see if it can include subdirectories automatically but I'll do that in a moment

I've tried it now, and it worked! I didn't have 365 directories and thousands of pictures in this test, but it was plain and simple:
1 - "Add media" To add root folder of pictures.
2 - "Create slideshow"
3 - "Create DVD" without menus and other interactions
4 - "Burn DVD"

Plain and simple. It also includes any videofiles you have captured with your digital camera. If you'll like to add a soundtrack just drag and drop your music in the audio track.
