No, it is not research. I don't come on here asking everyone to research my news stories for me. Research is when YOU go to the original source material YOURSELF and process the information. It is NOT when you ask other people what they THINK the information is.
We have a similar type of story technique in TV news. It's basically the same thing our friend is trying here. Rather than go get a real expert on the situation, they want us to go grab people on their way to lunch and ask them what they think about a topic. The bosses call it Man on the Street interviewing. We journalists call it Triple-A - Ask Any Asshole - because we get exactly what will be gotten out of this thread: A bunch of nonexperts who could be any profession in real life giving unsubstantiated opinions, and then this guy's gonna try and write a paper on it.
I echo others' sentiments: Go to the library. It's a neat place.
