I think they're pretty cool if they don't get infected and you have a good belly button for it. I am of the opinion though that you probably don't need to pierce yourself for adornment. The final decision is up to you, unless you are under 18. If that's the case, hang on for a little while. No one is going to think you're less cool if you don't have one right this minute.
