Wireless Card Shutting down Old Laptop

I recently dusted off my 8 year old Laptop for use strictly as a web browser and emergency backup. I spent an evening downloading all the updates and drivers I could find to make it go and was succsessful.

Here's its basic info:

Model: Eurocom 1200
Processer: AMD K6 3D - 180MB RAM
OS: Windows 98/SE

It works just fine but here's the catch. Everytime I turn it on with our Lynksys WirelessB card in the slot, it abruptly shuts down as Windows is opening. It will also shut off if I insert the card after booting. The wired network card does work however.

My guess is that the card draws too much power and is "tripping the breaker". Is this a case of incompatible generations of technology, or might there be a power setting that I can adjust to accomodate the extra draw?
