Ever try Bjork? Her album Homogenic (her best by far) might be a good fit.
Nina Nastasia! Low key, dark, creepy music. I have and enjoy Run to Ruin.
What about Slint? Iirc, they were the big precursor to post-rock bands like Mogwai and Godspeed You Black Emperor. Spiderland is the album to get.
