Pricked my thumb after giving cat insulin shot.. Any concern?
My cat has diabetes, and just now, while sheathing the needle after injecting her shot, the needle bent and protruded from the plastic cover, pricking my thumb.
I washed the area, applied alcohol, and while there was a little blood (it was a needle prick), I'm curious if there should be any concern on my part regarding the transmission of anything through the prick of a "used" needle?
I ended up getting in contact with my cat's veternarian, and was told that there is no real concern on my end, providing I am around the cat often. Apparently, there is an ailment called cat scratch fever that can transmit to humans, but other than that there is nothing to worry about in terms of transmission. Interesting stuff.
