If I were you I would take another look at that Outback, simply because those drive REALLY WELL in the rain. You won't notice the true difference the AWD makes until it gets wet and slick.
As for the VW, my boyfriend's uncle is a VW mechanic, and he says the new ones aren't nearly as good as the older models. I guess they're much less reliable.
Oh, and save yourself some money: look for lease returns! Don't buy new--buy almost new.
