Book on tape is probably a bad idea. Can you imagine how easy it would be to drift away while someone just talks to you? Use loud, arresting music. Maybe about halfway through, pull over and take a 30 minute nap. You'd not lose that much time, but it's amazing how much you can get out of a 30 minute nap. Just make sure you set an alarm to wake you back up. lol
Also, bring lots of energy drinks. Vault, red bull, stuff like that. Also try to have a good meal (but don't stuff yourself) with a good amount of carbs in it. Maybe pasta or something. It will help you by burning energy for a while and keeping your sugar nice and high, then you'll have to supplement with other quick energy sources, like the energy drinks.
Bottom line is, if your head is nodding and nothing is working to immediately correct it, you need to man up and pull over before you hurt yourself and/or others. It does you even less good to not get there at all than if you get there later than planned.
