If a player receives a yellow card in two consecutive games he is suspended from the next match. The slate is wiped clean after the group stage but it is still possible to be suspended for the second round match. That is if you receive a yellow card in the second and third group stage matches.
I may be wrong on some point here but that's my understanding of it.
