Is it possible for a faulty USB port to cook a flash drive?
Last night mandy copied a coupla files onto her flash drive. Then the drive got plugged into another machine. After many attempts the flash drive was pronounced Not Working. They assumed it was a problem with their USB port and returned the flash drive.
But now the damn thing won't work at all! I've tried all available USB ports on her machine (USB 2.0), but XP doesn't pick it up - even if I try to detect it manually.
I tried it in my laptop this morning (USB 1.0), and Windows told me that 'One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it'. Still no data access. I also noted that the drive gets uncharacteristically warm after only a few minutes in the USB slot.
The data on the drive is critical, and isn't saved anywhere else.
Please...HELP!
