there's a reason they're called stealerships
Even if they're honest - and many dealerships are, they're still usually a LOT more expensive than a good 3rd party mechanic. A timing belt/water pump on my old Integra was $250 at a regular mechanic, $485 at the dealership (and about $45 when I decided to stop being lazy and do the damn thing myself
)
And that's only the honest dealerships. There are plenty of dishonest and/or incompetent dealerships out there. Even if they're not outright lying to you, they might not know what they're doing. They might replace that part but if they overtighten the nuts, it'll break again in a few thousand miles.
