Williams-Lexus?
Quote:
Sources are indicating that the much-vaunted deal for Williams to run with Toyota power from 2007 on is now reality.
A report on ‘Autosport.com’ confirms what the paddock has believed for so long, and ventures that the deal is for two years, with an option to continue.
It is known that negotiations have been ongoing for some time now, and understood that the final agreement was made on the weekend of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Williams’ lengthy deliberation on whether to swap from Cosworth to Toyota has most likely been decided on the basis that at manufacturer supported engine programme is the way ahead, although team sources did express their satisfaction with the ‘private’ V8 so far this season.
"Cosworth's performance on the budget they have is remarkable," remarked a source close to Williams.
Frank Williams explained earlier in the season his criteria for an engine supply in 2007:
"The engine choice is both technical and commercial. Who has got the best chance of winning, versus what else comes with the engine?"
It is not yet confirmed whether to engine will be badged a ‘Toyota’ or, as strong rumours have it, the marques luxury ‘Lexus’ brand.
Williams’s decision almost certainly means the Midland team, currently using the Japanese power plant, will need to source a new engine supply for 2007.
An official announcement is expected around the time of the Candian Grand Prix.

This is pretty exciting. Williams have been running very well this year on garden-variety Cosworth engines...Toyota works engines could put them back on top. Time for a world champion to be back driving again for Williams F1.
