I should also mention the writing, which has improved considerably. It's lost a bit of its cheese (I've yet to see an alien fart joke...), but that's okay because what you get in return is so much better.

Indeed, I do think Tennant is more "Doctor-y." The writing has improved, but it's not without its flaws. It's lost the bad cheese, such as the thing with the Slitheen farting, but it's been replaced by a lot of joking around between The Doctor and Rose. Generally I like it, but I have read some fans complain that they can be a little too unserious in very serious moment, and that's a complaint I can definitely understand. I don't know if you've seen the werewolf episode, but Spoiler:
I did think it was a bit ridiculous that while *running for their lives* from a werewolf, they'd stop and say "can you believe it? a WEREWOLF!" "I know!!" I like seeing The Doctor and Rose joke around, but sometimes the way it's written it makes it seem like they don't have much respect for how serious the situation is at times.
