While the francophone population outnumbers the anglophone population about 4:1, Montreal is officially bilingual. Most - if not all - public establishments downtown (and nearby surrounding environs) speak both english and french. It probably wouldn't hurt to speak a bit of French with the ladies, but a charming bastard is a charming bastard in any language, no?
