Well compare him to the rest of F4....the ability to combust, fly and control fire; the ability to become invisible and telekenisis (and be really freaking hot); invulnerability and superhuman strength...Reed got the short end of the stick. I can't think of many characters that have powers of an equal level of lame, espically of such fame.
