I've always really enjoyed King's stuff. I especially like his short stories. He's just a very good storyteller, as has been said. Haven't read Desperation though.
To be fair, I really like Koontz as well. I thought Odd Thomas was great. But Forever Odd was a big letdown for me.
But yeah, movies based on King have definitely went WAAAAY downhill.
